The Pregnant and Postpartum Athlete

On the 5 Oct 2021, I attended an amazing webinar run by the RCC (Royal College of Chiropractors). The course content looked at a variety of pre and post partum considerations in athletes. Bearing in mind that actually many rules applied to any pregnancy, and not just those in athletes.

It was interesting to look at the impact hormones have on performance, as well as the impact they have on recovery. A big focus on Diastasis Rectus Abdominus (DRA). The different presentations. They also took us through some of the research that was available on exercises given and the outcomes in a variety of women over a large course of time. There was reference to Nicole Crawford and this https://breakingmuscle.com/workouts/12-weeks-of-workouts-to-rebuild-after-diastasis-recti. Very interesting.

The most important take home message, is that all recoveries will differ from person to person. Listen to your body, and take it one step at a time. When in doubt, speak to a professional and ask for help.
